2nd Annual "RUBA Cup BBQ Shootout" Returns to Clear Rock Ranch!

The RUBA Cup BBQ Shootout returned to Clear Rock Ranch on Saturday, March 19th, 2011. The Shootout grew since last year, with four of the best competition BBQ teams in the State of Texas coming to the Ranch to cook for the RUBA Cup trophy.

2010 Defending Champion WETSU BBQ returned looking strong, and were joined by some fine teams from the Lone Star Barbecue Society. The line-up was:

  • Smok'em and Strok'em
  • 5-C Cooking Team
  • Back Door BBQ
  • WETSU BBQ Crew
  • RUBA BBQ

This year's RUBA Cup coincided with the SXSW Festival in Austin, and a group from the Berklee College of Music came out to the ranch for the cookoff. We had almost 150 people in attendance! Berklee College Board Members served as our barbecue judges, with Jean Gebhard of Lone Star Barbecue Society officiating the event.

After the cookout a number of student bands from the Berklee College of Music performed on the back porch at Clear Rock Ranch, jamming well into the night with prospective students and members of the audience joining in.

Be sure to watch the two videos below for some highlights from the 2nd Annual RUBA Cup BBQ Shootout! The first was made by Sean Clauson, and the second is Berklee student Emily Elbert performing a set with the Boston Boys.

An interesting article in today's New York Times about a digital-video hunting scope that allows a real hunting experience, but no-kill. An interesting technology that might be fun to test out at Clear Rock Ranch someday.
